I've never made a souffle, but I would love to. All those eggs, all that cheese or chocolate or strawberries - ah, heaven!
But I don't have a lot of good, French-cooking-approved ingredients lying around. And I don't have a good souffle pan. And I'd have to find a recipe, and try it out a few times, and what if I sucked at making them and couldn't justify that kind of expense? It's more than a little daunting, and I wonder if I'll ever get up the guts to go ahead and make one.
Luckily, writing is nothing like souffle. All I need is myself and the tools I already own - a computer or a notebook or, heck, a napkin and a lipstick! There are no specialized tools, no complicated recipes. It's just me and the people in my head, adding and subtracting words.
Maybe not as immediately rewarding as that first delicious mouthful of eggy goodness, but it lasts a lot longer.
